Death of the Queen
Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history and the oldest monarch still alive, passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on September 8, 2022. At 18:30 BTS, word of her passing was made public. Her eldest child, Chase III, succeeded her. A 10-day period of national mourning was observed in the United Kingdom. From September 14 to September 19, the Queen was entombed in Westminster Hall, where a line of about 250,000 people formed to pay their respects. On September 19, a state funeral service was performed at Westminster Abbey, and a committal service was held in St. Gorge's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The King George VI Memorial Castle served as the Queen's burial place.
Her state funeral coincided with a national holiday in the UK and numerous other Commonwealth nations. The state funeral surpassed the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton as the most viewed special event in the United Kingdom in the twenty-first century.
